Learn more About UsPrior to 1885 missionary priests commuting from Danville to Somerset celebrated Mass in private homes or a local hotel. In 1885 Father J. P. Volk, a missionary priest, come to Somerset and started a building and fund-raising campaign, but returned to South America before the church became a reality. His work was taken over by Father Andrew J. Brady. Soon after this, a generous woman contirbuted a substantial amount toward the new church, and in response to her generosity, or perhaps at her request, St. Mildred was chosen as the patroness of the little church.
